Get Clear About Where You Are and Your Overall Destination

As the Fall season is about to be upon us, we begin to think of letting go. What needs to "Fall" away from your life, in order for you to have room for more and/or different?
For us to move forward we need to release baggage of the past. It's like trying to get to a different location, but you didn't clear your GPS. If you have the old coordinates still programmed in, you will only wind up where you've been. Part of the clearing is taking a look around at where you presently are.
Part of being stuck in the past is, ruminating or reminiscing about what we did "back in the day," before or once upon at time. True we can learn from where we've been. It can help us to go to the next level of somewhere good, to somewhere great; or never to go "there" or anywhere like it ever again. Nevertheless, you have to look at where you are in the moment. Sometimes that's a bit uncomfortable, because how we got there may be an issue. Since you really don't want to go around in circles, you don't dilly dally there either. The goal is to go forward; and go boldly where you've never dared to go before. So, take that look around your life. Ask yourself:
Where Am I?
Where Do I Want To Be?
Am I On The Right Path To Get To Where I Want To Be?
If Your Answer Is YES: You may want to find out how you can enhance your journey. Is there something else you can learn or do to make the trip easier, more fulfilling, joyful, or better prepared for your arrival? Most people are looking for the short cut to where they want to get to. This is possible; but you have to be sure you aren't sacrificing some vital experience in doing so. You may miss the scenic route (the road which enriches and educates your body, mind and spirit; and therefore expands you personally and gives you more to share). The shortest way isn't always the quickest way. You may wind up burning a lot more of your energy in the long run; or taking even longer to get there, because you run into roadblocks. On the other hand, you could be saving yourself some unnecessary bother. Do your research thoroughly; and weigh the pros and cons of each possible route.
If Your Answer Is NO: You need to find a safe way to stop and get on course. Notice I said "safely stop." Sometimes we want to come to an abrupt halt in our tracks. Unless your about to go off a cliff, this isn't always the right thing to do. Sometimes you have to ease onto your brakes, so you don't go into a tailspin. To give a non-metaphorical example: If you have a career or job in real estate and you really want to be a doctor, realistically you will not become a doctor overnight or in a year--for that matter. If you have the means to completely support yourself and your endeavor or a benefactor, you can quit your job and solely focus on your medical studies; which will lead you toward becoming a doctor. Most likely you will still have to work to support yourself and education; and quitting your job--if you have no source of income-- will make you broke and homeless. Changing your job to one in a related field may be a better option; and provide you with income, as well as experiences with patients and doctors. You have to assess which skills you have; in order to be a candidate for the new position or acquire some. You may have to take a connecting path: real estate to receptionist/secretary to assistant in a doctor's office. That's the scenic route. Another option is to stay in the real estate field, while supporting yourself through college and medical school. This isn't necessarily a short cut. Both paths will take a while, but you will get there.
I can't emphasize enough how it’s really important not to carry unnecessary emotional baggage, so you don't trip. Simply journey. Don't weigh yourself down with feelings of: "I should be there already." You're not. Get over it. "I'm older/younger than people who are there already." So what! "I don't have the energy." Do what you need to do to have it. Thinking the same negative thoughts are draining--start with not dwelling on and feeding them. "It's a lot of work." Again, so what. If you want it badly enough, you will do it. No one is going to put you on their back and carry you to where you want to be. If you entertain those thoughts and feelings, you'll never get there, or it will take you even longer, because you're making it a real drag.
Summer is ending and Fall will begin. Time to start thinking about where you want to be in the upcoming season of your life; and how you plan to get there. If you are truly content where you are (not comfortably uncomfortable) it's perfectly fine. You're at home within yourself; that's where you are and that is your destination.
